I spent quite a bit of time playing with Nebo and have enjoyed the experience. The controls aren’t quite as precise or intuitive as I’d like ideally, but it’s a huge step towards making my note-taking a purely digital experience. I think that the value I get from having my iPad as my paper and as shareable, searchable text is high enough that I’m willing to deal with the recognition errors in many cases.
Two things I’d love to see are:
- Tighter integration with Google Drive for easier sharing
- A way to export diagrams to PDF with color.
The $1,500 cost of an iPad is probably more than the $1,200 I’ve spent on paper my whole student/adult-life (assuming two cases per year for 20 years at $30 per case) and certainly more than I would spend on paper in the (optimistic) 5 year life-span of an iPad. But as my paper/writing-utensil habit gets a bit more expensive maybe they’ll start to even out and factoring in the other iPad uses, maybe we start to get close to efficiency...
I will spend some more time playing with the Solver functionality, but I’m excited overall about this direction for paper replacement.
